Coastal NC waterfront gazebos must meet North Carolina Coastal Building Code Section 1609 — minimum 130 mph wind rating in Pender, New Hanover, and Onslow Counties (Wind Zone D). Roof framing requires hurricane straps at every rafter-to-plate connection, 8d ring-shank nails or 316 stainless screws, and an aerodynamic roof pitch (5:12 to 8:12 — steeper roofs catch more wind).

CAMA platform area
A waterfront gazebo counts toward your CAMA general permit's 800 sq ft total platform allowance. A 12×12 gazebo (144 sq ft) leaves 656 sq ft for the dock platform itself. Larger gazebos require a CAMA major permit.
